Writing Sample

Sections I-III

Introduction

The Berkeley Review's Guide to the MCAT Writing Sample is our response to many requests made by students over the years to see examples of good writing of the kind you will be exprected to produce for the two half-hour writing sample essays on the MCAT, combined with a helpful overview and general introduction to this part of the test. The authors explain the reasons why the Writing Sample was added to the test, and how it is scored.

Also included are numerous practice essay topic statements very similar to those that have appeared on MCATs from recent years, with perforated, MCAT regulation-size lined sheets for you to write on and tear out. In the final section of the book, some student essays that would be scored at the highest level of writing proficiency are presented for study, followed by a writing instructor's commentary explaining the merits of each contributor's style and technique in presenting two sides of an argument.
